Gandhi Reflection
Jun 4th, 2009 by nicolek
Many people dream about being the change they want to see in the world. Though not everyone will be remembered for years to come, the little things change lives. Gandhi, a famous man freed India from the British; but he did so in peace. He inspired many people through his speeches and his words. He changed lives forever.
Many of Gandhi’s lessons have been recorded for us to savor and remember. I have read a post of the top ten of Gandhi’s lessons. After I read this, I read it again because what Gandhi said related so much to life now, in middle school. Though Gandhi wrote these in the context of how to change the world it can still be applied today. For example, I know that you have all heard this quote, “You must be the change you want to see in the world.” These are the very words Gandhi spoke. At ISB it is in the context of saving the world’s habitat, but we could also apply it to everyday life. When you walk down the hallways at school and you judge someone or question their actions; look at yourself and change yourself first. Out of all the lessons Gandhi taught, this is the first one that will inspire me to change.
This year I have learned a lot. In fact the lessons that Gandhi taught relate very much to what I’ve learned this past year. This year I have learned about human rights because that is my issue group and Gandhi really seems as though he would be one that wants everyone to equal. I am really going to try to apply some of Gandhi’s points in my own life; to make me a better person, more like Gandhi.
What I think I can do to change the world is to be the best person I can be. For if everyone was the best person they could be then that would change the world. I think the lessons Gandhi taught are a fine way to start. It is the little things that can make a big difference.
